Dominica Harrison

Dominica is a Ph.D. student in the Baum lab at the University of Victoria and is supported by the National Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). She obtained her MSc from the University of Alberta researching spectral signatures of tropical tree species in 2016 and has since used machine learning to quantify marine sponge behavior. She works in mapping coral reef distributions and monitoring their ecosystem function. Her current research uses hyperspectral data, 3D modeling, and geomorphology to develop novel reef classifications and spectral libraries. This research will help advance our understanding of coral reef community composition and biodiversity to strengthen conservation efforts and ecosystem management.
