Cathryn Freund

Cathryn is a PhD candidate in Miles Silman’s lab at Wake Forest University. She’s currently studying the role of landslides in tropical montane forest ecosystem functioning in the Peruvian Andes as part of the Andes Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research Group. Her research uses data gathered in the field, with drones, and from LiDAR. She has a Master’s degree in Conservation Biology from Columbia University, where she studied post-fire regeneration in tropical peat swamp forest in Indonesian Borneo. During and after completing her Master’s degree, she worked on tropical forest and orangutan conservation in Borneo for five years, first as a researcher with the Borneo Nature Foundation and then as Program Director for the Gunung Palung Orangutan Conservation Program.
